Indirect aggression, gender, and social network density [Text] : abstr. 11th World Meet. Int. Soc. Res. Aggress., Delray Beach, Fla, July 6-10, 1994 / Laura R. Green, Tania Lago, Deborah R. Richardson // Aggress. Behav. - 1995. - Vol. 21, N 3. - P174 . - ISSN 0096-140X

Аннотация: Aggression research has consistently shown that men are more directly aggressive than women. Recent studies, however, have suggested that women may be more indirectly aggressive than men. This apparent gender difference in indirect aggression may simply reflect gender differences in social network density; having a dense network in which many people know each other should provide more opportunities to use indirect aggression. The present study tested the hypothesis that people with relatively dense social networks would report engaging in more indirect aggression. Research participants completed self-report measures of direct aggressive responding and network density. Preliminary analyses revealed that although women reported more indirect than direct aggression, these forms of aggression did not related to density of social network. In low-density networks, men reported no differences in levels of direct and indirect aggression, but they reported significantly more indirect aggression than direct aggression high-density networks. Thus, the apparent opportunity for indirect aggression provided by high-density social networks seems to be used only by males

The relationship between modes of aggression and the big five [Text] : abstr. 11th World Meet. Int. Soc. Res. Aggress., Delray Beach, Fla, July 6-10, 1994 / Tania Lago, Deborah R. Richardson // Aggress. Behav. - 1995. - Vol. 21, N 3. - P178 . - ISSN 0096-140X
Перевод заглавия: Взаимосвязь между видами агрессии и "большой пятеркой"
Аннотация: Although human aggression is influenced primarily by social context, individual differences are likely to play a role in such behavior as well. Recent research has revealed that five basic dimensions seem to adequately characterize personality: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, and Openness to Experience. The present study was designed to examine the relationship between these basic personality dimensions and self-reports of expression (verbal and physical aggression) and experience (anger and hostility) of aggression. Ninety-three undergraduate students completed an adjective-rating scale instrument, which measured the five-factors of personality (Goldberg, 1992), and the Aggression Questionnaire, which assessed the manifestations of aggression (Buss & Perry, 1992). Correlational analysis revealed Agreeableness to be negatively correlated with self-reports of expression of aggression (i.e. verbal and physical). Conscientiousness was also found to be negatively correlated with the expression of aggression. Thus, highly agreeable people and highly conscientious individuals report a hesitancy to express aggression. The expression of aggression was negatively correlated with the five factors. The data suggest the possibility of assessing potential aggressive individuals in terms of general personality factors
