Аннотация: To find out the best preoperatory clues for choosing the side to implant an ear, a retrospective study of 111 patients implanted with the Nucleus multichannel device were studied. Among "peripheral" factors, the shorter duration of deafness and the lesser cochlear obliteration were better regarding functional results. Regarding the "central" parameters, it was found better to implant the ear ipsilateral to the dominant cerebral hemisphere, defined by the handedness of the patient. Among ambidextrous patients or in children with no clear dominance, it is proposed to implant the right ear, based in the well known "right ear advantage" among the general population. Ил. 1.
