Аннотация: Were studied 225 women with a history of two consecutive first-trimester miscarriages. None of the patients had an identifiable cause of recurrent miscarriages. ANA were measured pre-pregnancy by indirect immunofluorescence on Hep-2 cell slides. Controls were 740 healthy first-trimester pregnant women with no history of miscarriage or autoimmune disorders. 39 of the 225 (17*3%) patients had ANA compared with 33 of 740 (4*5%) control women. ANA-positive recurrent aborters had antibodies throughout the first trimester. 49 of the 225 (21*8%) recurrent aborters had a further miscarriage-43 of 186 ANA-negative patients and 6 of 39 ANA-positive patients (no significant difference). 13 of 23 cases (56*5%) analysed within the miscarriage group had abnormal fetal karyotypes. When the miscarriages caused by these abnormal chromosomes were excluded, 33 of 176 ANA-negative and 2 of 35 ANA-positive patients miscarried. Were concluded that ANA are associated in some way with miscarriage, but ANA-positive recurrent aborters with no evidence of aPL do not require medication because the presence of antibodies does not predict subsequent pregnancy loss.
