Аннотация: Seven rhesus monkeys (Macaca malatta) were used, and a total of 235 urodynamic experiments were done to compare abdominal pressure measured by freely implanted transducer with rectal pressure measured by water-filled balloon catheter fixed in the rectum (10 cm from the anal sphincter) and connected to external pressure transducer. All the experiments were done under ketamine anaesthesia (1 mg/1 kg body weight). The comparison was made during two different settings: (a) during sudden increase in intra-abdominal pressure caused by induced cough and manual abdominal compression and (b) during bladder filling in cystometry. During cystometry, agreement of the rectal pressure with the implanted abdominal transducer (true abdominal pressure) was present in only 4.6% of the readings. The rest of the readings showed rectal contraction in 15%, increased rectal pressure with bladder filling in 74.71%, while sudden decrease of rectal pressure was present in 3.45%. During stress (cough), there was good correlation between rectal and true abdominal pressure. Our studies suggest that rectal pressure in not a reliable measurement of abdominal pressure in monkeys. Identification of rectal pressure artifacts during urodynamics is of paramount importance. Similar observations in humans should be studied and considered in analysis of urodynamic testing.
