Аннотация: The paper contains a comparative analysis of the state of knowledge and the advancement of research relating to entrepreneurship in Poland and in some industrially developed countries (e.g. in the USA), as well as in the developing ones. First the research is described in a historical survey, starting from the earliest ideas of Protestant ethic of work (Weber 1904) to the most recent descriptions of entrepreneurs (e.g. by Brockhaus 1982; Winslow, Solomon 1989; Hisrich 1990). In the final part of the paper it is argued that it is useful to deal with entrepreneurship from the point of view of economic psychology, and it is shown also that the issues in question are very important in our present economic transformations in Poland.
