Аннотация: Neo-Piagetians have claimed memory span to be the missing link between psychometrically defined intelligence and cognition, i.e., to be the most important human limitation in reasoning and problem solving. Changes in children's logical abilities are contingent upon a maturational increase in memory span. In research done by Pascual-Leone the memory span maximum became the mental energy operator. By applying the Bose-Einstein-occupancy model of quantum statistics to learning experiments, Pascual-Leone obtained very good agreement between empirical findings and Bose-Einstein predicted probabilities. Multiplying memory span by mental speed (bits processed per unit of time), operationally defined as reading rate, and using the entropy formula for indistinguishable quantum particles (bosons), the so-called Erlangen school of information psychology calculates short-term memory storage capacity and, by IQ testing, numerically obtains the same result as Pascual-Leone with learning tests. If we understand memory span as the quantum number of a harmonic oscillator, we have a third way to get this very same result from evoked potentials of the EEG, now in terms of power spectrum density of the EEG.
