Заглавие : Bacillus cereus pneumonia in premature neonates: A report of two cases
Источник статьи : Pediat. Infec. Disease J. - 1993. - Vol. 12, N 3. - С. 251-253
Аннотация: Bacillus cereus is an uncommon pathogen and clinically it is most often encountered as a culture contaminant. Many of the systemic infections occur in immunosuppressed adults. Reports of this infection in neonates are distinctly uncommon and a recent review of the literature described just four cases. We describe the clinical course and autopsy findings in B. cereus infection of early onset in two premature newborns. These children were delivered 2 days apart in the same hospital and died of necrotizing pneumonia in the same neonatal intensive care unit. This raises the possibility of a nosocomial infection. B. cereus may produce a variety of toxins. The microscopic changes at autopsy suggest that it was these toxins that were responsible for the fulminant clinical course in both cases
