Автор(ы) : Rossetti, Yves, Desmurget, Michel, Prablanc, Claude
Заглавие : Vectorial coding of movement: Vision, proprioception, or both?
Источник статьи : J. Neurophysiol. - 1995. - Vol. 74, N 1. - С. 457-463
Аннотация: Subjects were asked to point toward visual targets without visual reafference from the moving hand in two conditions. In both conditions the pointing fingertip was viewed only before movement onset. In one condition, the pointing fingertip was viewed through prisms that created a visual displacement without altering the view of the target. In another experimental condition, vision of the fingertip was not displaced. Comparison of these two conditions showed that virtually shifting finger position before movement through prisms induced a pointing bias in the direction opposite to the shift. The extent of this pointing bias was about one third of the prismatic shift applied to the fingertip. Analysis of movement initial direction demonstrated that it was also less deviated than predicted from the prismatic shift. In addition, the reaction time and movement time of the reaching movement were increased. This result is interpreted in the framework of the vectorial coding of reaching movement. Proprioception and vision provide two possible sources of information about initial hand position, i.e., the origin of the movement vector. The question remains as to how these two sources of information interact in specifying initial hand position when they are simultaneously available. Библ. 20

Заглавие : Role of posterior parietal cortex in the recalibration of visually guided reaching
Источник статьи : Nature. - Gr. Brit., 1996. - Vol. 383, N 6601. - С. 618-621
Аннотация: Visually guided reaching requires complex neural transformations to link visual and proprioceptive inputs with appropriate motor outputs. Despite the complexity of these transformations, hand-eye coordination in humans is remarkably flexible, as demonstrated by the ease with which reaching can be adapted to distortions in visual feedback. If subjects attempt to reach to visual targets while wearing displacing prisms, they initially misreach in the direction of visual displacement. Given feedback about their reaching errors, however, they quickly adapt to the visual distortion. This is shown by the gradual resumption of accurate reaching while the prisms remain in place, and by the immediate onset of reaching errors in the opposite direction after the prisms have been removed. Despite an abundance of psychophysical data on adaptation to prisms, the functional localization of this form of sensorimotor adaptation is uncertain. Here the authors use positron emission tomography (PET) to localize changes in regional cerebral blood flow (rCBF) in subjects who performed a prism-adaptation task as well as a task that controlled for the sensory, motor and cognitive conditions of the adaptation experiment. Difference images that reflected the net effects of the adaptation process showed selective activation of posterior parietal cortex contralateral to the reaching limb

Аннотация: In this introductory commentary, it is argued that the many areas in the cerebral cortex, cerebellum, and elsewhere that are active during reaching movements must interact to generate the appropriate neuronal drive for any given reach trajectory. Cooperative interaction among dispersed neuronal groups may be facilitated by synchronization of intrinsic oscillatory cycles of excitability. In sensorimotor cortex, intervals of oscillatory activity in relatively high frequency bands have been linked to the preparation phase of limb movements. Moreover, synchronization of oscillatory cycles in different loci of frontal and parietal cortex has been reported. Oscillation frequencies change abruptly at the onset movement, which could reflect altered cerebellar influences on motor thalamocortical circuits

Заглавие : Prism adaptation of reaching movements: Specificity for the velovity of reaching
Источник статьи : J. Neurosci. - 1997. - Vol. 17, N 4. - С. 1481-1492
Аннотация: Accurate reaching toward a visual target is disturbed after the visual field is displaced by prisms but recovers with practice. When the prisms are removed, subjects misreach in the direction opposite to the prism displacement (aftereffect). The present study demonstrated that the severity of the aftereffect depends on the velocity of the movements during and after the visual displacement. Trained subjects were required to reach with one of four movement durations (300, 'ЭКВИВ'800, 'ЭКВИВ'2000, and 'ЭКВИВ'5000 msec) from a fixed starting point to a target that appeared at a random location on a tangent screen (400 mm away). The size of the aftereffect was largest when the movement after the removal was performed with the same duration as that performed with the prisms. It became smaller as the difference in velocity became larger. When the contralateral arm was used after visual displacement, the aftereffect was never significant, Because the adaptation does not generalize across velocities or to the other arm, we infer that the underlying changes occur at a later stage in the transformation from visual input to motor output, in which not only the direction but also the time-dependent parameters of movements, such as velocity, acceleration or force, are represented
